Robert Leon Johnston, 77, of Burlington, died at 6:25 a.m. Sunday, July 18, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born Feb. 17, 1922, in Mount Union, he was the son of William Robert and Lela Loretta Beuchat Johnston. On May 25, 1952, he married Marie K. Loserth in Peoria, Ill. Mr. Johnston was a quality control engineer for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He was a graduate of Mount Union High School, and the watchmaking school in Peoria. He was a World War II Army veteran, receiving the Bronze Star with Oak Cluster. He was a member of Des Moines Masonic Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. of Burlington. Survivors include his wife and one brother, Clyde C. Johnston of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends following 7 p.m. Masonic rites by Des Moines Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. until 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Johnston will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Des Moines Masonic Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. and Bethany Lutheran Church.
