Leo Edward Hartman, 90, of Burlington, died at 1:05 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2006, at Klein Center in Burlington. Born October 3, 1916, in his parents home in Burlington, he was the son of Frank J. and Ann Long Hartman. On December 1, 1951, he married Frances Geneva "Gene" Wickhart in Burlington. He was schooled locally and served in the Army as a medic in Germany and France during World War II. He worked for several Burlington painting and wallpaper contractors before starting his own business, Hartman and Nuss with Mark Nuss. Together, they specialized in painting historical buildings and homes. He was a member of Eagles and VFW. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. In younger years, he loved ice skating on Lake Starker, fishing, duck and squirrel hunting. He was of the Catholic faith. Survivors include his wife of Burlington; one step-daughter, Linda J. Kelley of Henderson, Nevada; three grandsons, Kevin (Pam) Peterson and Jarrin Peterson, both of Burlington, and Brian Beebe of Birmingham, Iowa; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul (Dorothy) Hartman of Canada; one sister, Janet (Richard) Christ of Burlington; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Warren and John, in childhood. Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. Burial with full military rites conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established.
