Obituary
John Richard Siekert, 87, of Burlington, died at 4:13 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, at Great River Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington. Born May 12, 1921, in Whitefish Bay, Wis., he was the son of Frederick Nissen and Marie Pearce Siekert. On September 20, 1944, he married Mary Geneva Johnson in Burlington. Mr. Siekert worked at Murray Iron Works in Burlington as a turbine sales engineer, and became vice president of the company. He retired in 1981 as Trane Co. Turbine Plant Manager. He was a graduate of Peter Stuyvesant High School in New York City, and attended University of Michigan. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a volunteer at the Arts for Living Center, and active in the Old Fort Yacht Club. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, served as an usher, and served on the Vestry. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mary Ellen Eves of Burlington; two sons, Paul Siekert of San Jose, Costa Rica, and John Siekert of Eugene Ore.; five grandchildren; one sister, Joan McAllister of Mulberry, Fla.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mr. Siekert will be at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church in Burlington, with the Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Memorials have been established for the Art Guild of Burlington and Fort Yacht Club.
