Obituary
Marjorie M. (Rieke) Johnson Horn, 94, went to be with her Savior on March 15, 2013. She lived the last 3 years of her life as a resident of Liberty Nursing Center in Jamestown, OH, near her son, but Marjorie's life-long home was in Burlington, Iowa. She loved taking care of her plants and roses at her beloved home overlooking the Mississippi River. Marjorie and her first husband, Glen (Tiny), owned Johnson's Flower Shop in Burlington and while he created beautiful designs, she could bring the deadest of plants to life. She loved singing, the symphony, opera, reading, walking, feeding the birds around her house and tending to her many plants and flowers.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her first husband, Glen Johnson and her second husband, Frank Horn, her parents; and her brothers, Melbourne, Kenneth and Raymond Rieke. Just 34 days prior to Marjorie’s death, her dear sister and best friend Edith Rieke passed away.
Marjorie is survived by her son Tim Johnson and his wife Vickie, granddaughter Lindsey Vivas and husband Abraham, nephew Phil Rieke, nieces Patricia Perry & Sharon O'Connor and many grand and great grand-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many precious friends who enriched her life greatly.
A celebration of Marjorie's life will be held at Riverside Baptist Church, 313 Emmett St., Burlington, IA on Friday, May 17 at 1:30 PM. Marjorie & her sweet sister, Edith, will be buried side by side in a private burial at Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and because of Marjorie’s great love of reading, memorials in her name may be sent to the Burlington Public Library.
