Richard "Rick" Fred Koranda, Jr., 58, of West Burlington, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009, at his residence. Born November 24, 1950, in Anamosa, he was the son of Richard "Dick" Fred, Sr. and Bessie Leuthold Koranda. Mr. Koranda was a journeyman machinist at Dresser Rand for 21 years. He was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Lodge #1010, and Burlington Gym, and a former member of Eagles, V.F.W. and Moose. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golf, and baseball, and was a NASCAR fan of #6 Mark Martin, Packers fan, and a huge Yankee fan. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, helping others, loved to make people laugh, and enjoyed having an ice cold Miller Life. Survivors include one son, Chad Koranda of Chicago, Illinois; two daughters, Kimberly Koranda and Jennifer (Nick) Duttweiler, both of Burlington; three grandchilden; two sisters, Lucy Morris of Moline, Illinois, and Peggy Cotton of Davenport; and one brother, Bill Koranda of DeWitt. His parents and brother, David Koranda, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25th, in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mr. Koranda will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Deb Miller-Kinney will officiate. A reception will follow at Doris' Tap following the funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. According to Mr. Koranda's wishes, his body will be cremated following the funeral service.
