John Edward Jamison, 74, of Middletown, died at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999, at his residence. Born May 10, 1924, in Taylorville, Ill., he was the son of James and Editha Rhoads Jamison. On July 19, 1947, he married Naomi "Sally" Wise in Jacksonville, Ill. Mr. Jamison worked for Mason & Hanger-Silas Mason Co. at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 39 years, retiring in May, 1988 as division manager of plant protection. He remained a company consultant following his retirement. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Burlington, Burlington Kiwanis Club where he served on the board, and American Legion Post 52 of Burlington. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving as pharmacist's mate. He was stationed in the Pacific for 26 months. He enjoyed woodworking, community service projects, and traveling. He was active in planning and attending reunions of his 78th U.S. Naval CB unit. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sheila Sharp of Omaha, Neb., and Rhonda Jamison of Minneapolis; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one brother, George Jamison of Taylorville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. Visitation will be from 8 a..m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church. The funeral for Mr. Jamison will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Forrest Krummel officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162 will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church, Burlington Kiwanis, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
