Marjorie Elinore Kurtz, 90, of Burlington, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. Born January 7, 1919, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Henry Fredrick and Dorothy Matilda Englehorn Sorensen. In 1947, she married Victor Earl Kurtz in Nashua. He preceded her in death in 1977. Mrs. Kurtz worked for the Des Moines County Auditor for 19 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Community of Christ Church, R.S.V.P., and the Golden Oldies, where she served as first Vice President for years. Marge was an avid traveler, traveling around the world and throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, and resided for two years in Bangkok, Thailand. Survivors include twin sons, Dr. Robert A. (Marcia Swartz) Kurtz of Raleigh, NC, and Richard L. (Ivana) Kurtz of New Brighton, MN; one daughter Carolyn Sue (Dave) Helston of Raleigh, NC; two granddaughters, Antonia and Aimee; one grandson, Alex; three step-grandsons, Joshua, Jared, and Joel; sister-in-law Marian Sorensen; and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, twin brother Melbourne "Bud" Sorensen, and brother James Sorensen preceded her in death. The funeral services for Mrs. Kurtz will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 27th, in Lunning Chapel. Mr. Alan Ourth will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Monday, October 26th, in Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association, Community of Christ, or to the Golden Oldies.
