Obituary
An absolute angel on earth has become one of God's angels in heaven. Lorraine Ann Huppenbauer Kelso, 88, of Burlington, passed away on Friday morning, April 13, 2012 at Blair House, Burlington, Iowa. She was born on May 20, 1923 in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of William Frederick and Anna Marie Stodt Huppenbauer. She married Wayne A. Kelso on October 10, 1953 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2001. She graduated from St. Paul Central High School. She was employed at Midwest Biscuit and IAAP in secretarial work. She later worked at Paule Jewelry Co. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and former member of the Resurrection Choir. She enjoyed traveling with her son, crossword puzzles, jumbles, reading, family photographs and the Encore Western Channel. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of much pride and joy. Her faith was an unfailing comfort to her; helping her to be the constant rock and inspiration that she was to all who knew her. She was known for her awesome sense of humor and ability to crack jokes. She was always smiling.
She is survived by three daughters, Ann Marie (Jeff) Japsen of Burlington, Iowa, Mary Lee Stevenson of Burlington, Iowa and Joani E. (Kyle) Sturms of Keokuk, Iowa; one son, John E. Kelso of Stamford, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Meredith (Brad) Deal of Ankeny, Iowa, Kelly (Chad) Brueck of North Liberty, Iowa, Kurtis Stevenson of Burlington, Iowa, U.S. Army Specialist Kristopher (Whitney) Stevenson of Ft. Stewart, Georgia, Kayla Sturms and Jenna Sturms, both of Keokuk, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Brady Brueck, Kelso Brueck and Tanner Stevenson; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Richard & Phyllis Knopp; nieces and nephews; her dog, Liddie; her second family, "The Starr Avenue Sisterhood", Mary Ann Schleif, Lisa Hines, Skeeter Arnold, Twyla Tweed, Sharon Eisenmeyer and Nancy Guffy. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one infant son, Joseph Charles Kelso and one sister, Ethel Astfalk. The Funeral Mass for Lorraine Ann Kelso will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. Celebrant will be The Very Rev. Anthony Herold. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening, April 16, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends until 8:30 p.m. A memorial has been established for SS John & Paul Catholic Church.
