Joani Kelso Sturms, 53, of Keokuk, formerly of Burlington, died at 7:27 PM Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Great River Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1964, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wayne A. & Lorraine Huppenbauer Kelso. On October 11, 1986, she married Kyle James Sturms at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington.
Joani was a sales representative at Mediacom for almost thirty years.
She was a member of SS John & Paul Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at the Keokuk Humane Society, Relay for Life, a member of the American Cancer Society, and the American Diabetes Association. She enjoyed playing with her dogs, dancing, reading, camping, traveling, being with her friends & sisters, and spending time with her grandson. Joani never knew a stranger.
She was an organ donor and through her passing she was able to make someone's life better. It is comforting to know her vision lives on.
Survivors include her husband, Kyle; two daughters, Kayla (Derek) Gail of Keokuk and Jenna Sturms of Fort Madison; one grandson, Drayton Joseph Linn Gail; one brother, John E. Kelso of Stamford, CT; two sisters, Ann Marie (Jeff) Japsen of Burlington, and Mary Lee Stevenson of Cedar Rapids; her aunt & uncle, Richard & Phyllis Knopp of Burlington; two nieces; two nephews; one great-niece; four great-nephews; her father & mother-in-law, James & Barbara Sturms of Muscatine; one brother-in-law, Jay Sturms of Hilton Head Island, SC; one sister-in-law, Becky (Joel) Wichers of Muscatine and their children, Drake, Drew, & Luke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine & Wayne and her brother, Joseph Kelso.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends following a 5:00 PM Rosary Service until 7:00 PM Thursday, June 1, 2017, at Prugh's Chapel.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Sturms will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 2, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in St. John's Cafeteria following the burial.
A Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, June 4, 2017 at the Lake Cooper Foundation located at 810 Main St. in Keokuk.
Memorials have been established for the American Diabetes Association & the American Cancer Society.
