Catherine Louise Hunter, 94, of Muscatine, formerly of Burlington, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 2009, at Lutheran Homes in Muscatine. Born July 16, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frederick and Anna Froid Richter. On October 21, 1934, she married Wilbur LaVerne Hunter in Burlington. He died in September 1978. Mrs. Hunter worked several years at Chittenden & Eastman in Burlington. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and Mary Martha Circle. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and fishing. While at the care center, she was known as "the bead lady," she made and gave away bracelets. Survivors include three sons, Dennis Hunter of Fort Madison, LaMonte Hunter of Woodville, Texas, and Ronald Hunter of Greeley, Colo.; one daughter, Sherry Cottrell of Muscatine; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister. There will be no visitation. As per her request, cremation has been accorded. A memorial service for Mrs. Hunter will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Pastor Jerry Rigdon officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Asbury United Methodist Church and Hope Haven. The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
