Obituary

Betty Jane Atkinson, 93, of Burlington died at 8:07 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 24, 1921, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of Dewey and Anna Johnson Darnold. On May 8, 1987, she married Gary E. Atkinson in Burlington.
Mrs. Atkinson was a homemaker, worked at St. Francis Hospital in the laundry department, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and Elm View Care Center for 11 years, retiring in 1987.
She attended Burlington schools.
She was a member of Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals, dancing, music, traveling, cards, table games and roller skating.
Besides her husband, survivors include one son Jack (Lili) Taylor of Carman, IL., two daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" (Mark) Meyer of Milan, IL., and Maryann (Tom) Stimpson of Stronghurst, IL.; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert Taylor; three brothers, Harold, Bob, and Jim; and one sister, Donna Wise.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 21st and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Lunning Chapel.
The funeral service for Mrs. Atkinson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 21st ,at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. There will be a luncheon served at Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church following the committal service.
Memorials have been established for the America Diabetes Association and Des Moines County Humane Society
