Joseph Ora Becker, 71, of Burlington, died at 3:40 AM Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born November 1, 1943, in Farmington, IA, he was the son of Ora Leon and Marion Louise Philp Becker. He had married and later divorced Neilly Hudson and Billie Jo Smith.
Joseph was an electrician for Federal Mogul for 32 years, retiring in 2009. He had previously worked at the American Ordinance Plant and Northstar Steel Mill.
He was a 1961 graduate of Farmington High School. He also had received his associates degree in electronics from Southeastern Community College.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving for many years in Naval Aviation.
He was a former member of Sharon Presbyterian Church near Primrose. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He was a private pilot and enjoyed ownership of a single engine Cessna in 1990.
Survivors include his longtime companion, Judy Carlson of Burlington; two sons, Wesley (Gail) Becker of Nashville, TN, and Joseph (Geraldine) Becker of Fort Kent, ME; one step-son, Darin (Cherish) Carlson of Sperry, IA; three granddaughters, Rebecca, Jessica, and Joanna; two step-grandsons, Dalton and Brenton; one brother, Ross Wayne (Rosie) Becker of Bonaparte, IA; one sister, Leona (Jim) Byars of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Becker will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Baker officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
