Elaine Hoxie,71, of Burlington, died at 3:05 PM, Sunday, December 11, 2011, at home surrounded by her family.Born July 15, 1940, in Ottawa, IL, she was the daughter of Ralph Milton and Frances V. Smith Davies. On June 18, 1960, she married Robert H. "Bob" Hoxie in Burlington. She was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School and attended the University of Colorado. Elaine worked as a Computer Assistant to the Media Director for the West Burlington School District and also ran the computer lab. She retired in 2009. Prior to that she had been a school bus driver, library aide and attendance clerk at Burlington High School. She loved working with and mentoring her students.She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was also a member of PEO Chapter NH. She was an avid golfer, and enjoyed showing horses at county and state fairs and the Kansas City Royal in her youth. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was known for her positive attitude, humor, ingenuity and determination despite declining health.Survivors include her husband, Robert H. "Bob" Hoxie; one son, Logan (Stephanie) Hoxie of Cedar Rapids, IA; one daughter, Jill (Michael) Harmon of Gurnee, IL; two grandsons, Mason Hoxie and Max Hoxie; one brother, R. Smith "Smitty" Davies of Wichita, KS; several nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Doris Esslinger of Pekin, IL.She was preceded in death by her parents. As per Elaine's request cremation has been accorded. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.The memorial service for Mrs. Hoxie will be 10:00 AM Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Bethany Lutheran Church with Reverend Rick Biedermann officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Bethany Lutheran Church following the inurnment.
