Elsie Frances Housman, 95, of Sperry, died at 12:10 p.m. on Friday, December 25, 2009, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehab in Mediapolis. Born March 12, 1914, in Yarmouth, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Emma Vandermark Green. On April 11, 1936, she married Howard G. Housman in Burlington. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1994. Mrs. Housman was a graduate of Yarmouth High School. She worked with her husband on their farm in Sperry. She was a member of the Sperry United Methodist Church, as well as the Women's Society at church. She also was a member of Willing Workers. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Elaine Fell of Orange, California; one son, David Housman of Moulton; and two great-grandchildren, Nicole Elaine and Zachary Norris of Albia. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Scott Norris; parents; three sisters, Nellie Hetherington, Gladys Parrott, and Mildred Hollingsworth; and two brothers, Cecil Green and Warren Green. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Housman will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 30th, in Sperry United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeff Kodis will officiate. A luncheon will be served at the church following the funeral service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Sperry United Methodist Church.
