Helen Laurene Housman, age 93 of Yarmouth, died Saturday May 7, 2016 at Great River Medical Center. The daughter of Charles Earnest and Bessie Marie (Anderson) Butcher, she was born December 11, 1922 at Morning Sun. On September 10, 1942 she married Floyd Everett Housman at Morning Sun; he died November 17, 2006. Helen was a farmwife who loved her family, the beauty of the country, her home and the results of working hard and giving to others. Helen and Floyd farmed a century family farm. She was a member of the Yarmouth United Methodist Church and local ladies club.
Those left to cherish her memory; three children and their spouses, Tony and Pennie Housman of Wapello; Nathan and Barbara Housman of Yarmouth; Pearl Marie and Orson Bauder of Musctine; 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Robert and Maynard Butcher and one sister Eva Mae Corey; one grandson Jerrry Housman;
The funeral service will be held Thursday May 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with Pastor Dan Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2-7:00 p.m. at Hagele and Honts, where the family will meet with friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Memorials have been established for the Yarmouth First Responders and the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
