Dorothy I. Ashby, 85, of Burlington, died at 4:15 a.m.Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center. Born Oct. 5, 1919, in Crawfordsville, she wass the daughter of Jesse C. and Mary E. Willet Riley. On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Harry D. Ashby in Washington. he died May 4, 1994. Mrs. Ashby was a homemaker. She worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant from 1965 to 1970. She was a member of Columbus City Methodist Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Survivors include four sons, Daryl Ashby, James Ashby and Melvin Ashby, all of Burlington, and Larry Ashby fo Tucson, Ariz.; three daughters, Audrey Klinkerman of Denver, Linda Smith of Mount Pleasant and Donna Heland of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother Charles Riley of Columbus City; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and one granddaughter. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Ashby will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tyrone C. Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
