Leona Lee Hoschek, 85, of Burlington, Iowa, died at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday evening, September 30, 2013.
Born on December 1, 1927 in Abingdon, Illinois, she was the daughter of Clarence E. and Mary E. Winchell Griffith. She married Stephen Matthew Hoschek on November 5, 1945 in Burlington, Iowa.
Leona worked at the Atomic Energy Division of IAAP for 20 years. She was a realtor for 25 years until her retirement in 2007. Her professional realtor career began with Wolfe Real Estate and continued through their merger with Coldwell Banker Great River Real Estate. As a realtor, she was a member of the Burlington Board of Realtors, the Iowa Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. Following retirement she spent her life enjoying family, friends and travel. One of her most memorable and enjoyable trips was a journey to the Holy Land. Leona also volunteered at the Great River Medical Center reception desk. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, St. Paul Catholic Church and the Firefighters Auxiliary.
She is survived by four sons, Michael Carl (Kathleen) Hoschek of Davenport, Iowa, Thomas M. (Mary) Hoschek, Timothy E. (Sue Frice) Hoschek and Scott (Kristine) Hoschek, all of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Sue Ellen (Craig) Spear of Burlington, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Andrea, Tammy, Emilee, Dean, Melissa, Megan, Kelsie, Keaton, Derek and Amie; 14 great-grandchildren, Ronan, Mia, Blaise, Brennon, Taylor, Logan, Garrett, Brooklynne, Lukas, Kamden, Kohen, Sutton, Hayden and Grant; and Josie her yellow grand-dog.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; her parents, Clarence and Mary Griffith; one brother, Richard Griffith; and one sister, Edith Andrews.
The Funeral Mass for Leona Lee Hoschek will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Burlington, Iowa. Con-celebrants will be Fr. Hai Dinh and Fr. Bruce DeRammelaere. Special music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment of ashes will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel with a Christian Wake Service to be held at 6:00 p.m. The family will then receive friends until 8:00 p.m.
