Paul Daniel “Dan” Hoschek, 55, of Burlington, Iowa, died at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa Friday morning, December 27, 2013 after a short courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 9, 1958 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Paul H. and Shirley I. Hanson Hoschek.
He was of the Protestant Faith
Dan was a graduate of Notre Dame High School class of 1976 and attended Estherville College. He played football in high school and college. Dan worked for the Iowa Department of Correctional Services at the men’s Residential Facility for 24 years. He owned and operated a cleaning business and was active in the Farmer’s Market in produce sales. He liked to work in the yard and garden. Dan also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Over the years Dan had many dogs; his favorites were Daisy and Ella.
Dan is survived by his wife Joyce of Burlington who recently celebrated 13 years together. One daughter, Shelby Hoschek of New London, Iowa and one son Nathan Hoschek also of New London, Iowa. Two step-daughters, Wendy (Kasey) Rider of Danville, IA and Megan Doyle of Burlington, Iowa. Two step-sons, Derrick (Jaleesa) Doyle of Danville, IA and Curtis (Candi) Doyle also of Danville, IA. Grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Gannon, Baylee, Macy, Wyatt, Ayden, Mykael, Kamey, Kinley, Donntasia and Valicea. Two sisters, Becky (Charles) Kneedy of Macomb, IL and Kris (Jack) Smith of Galesburg, IL. Four special nieces, Lisa, Robyn, Beth & Jennifer. Several cousins. One Aunt and Uncle of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Prugh’s Chapel Monday, December 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening at Prugh’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A memorial has been established in his name.
