Harold Louis Ashby, 68, of Detroit, formerly of Burlington, died Friday, June 11, 1993, at the VA Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Mich. Born Aug. 21, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold K. Ashby and Geraldine O. Baker. On Jan. 17, 1948, he married Daisy V. Cobb in Detroit. Mr. Ashby attended Burlington public schools and Burlington Junior College. He graduated from Wilberforce University and Payne Theological Seminary. While in Burlington, he served as president of the Burlington chapter of the NAACP, NAACP branch office and was active in Burlington civic organizations. He and his wife served as pioneers for the Bahai faith in Anguilla, British West Indies, from 1985 to 1987. He retired as a postal worker with the Burlington Post Office. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Besides his wife,he is survived by his mother, Geraldine Brown of Burlington; two sons, Gerald Ashby of San Diego, and Kevin Ashby of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Geraldine Ashby of Dayton, Ohio, and Lynda Ashby Ludy of Chicago; a brother, Robert K. Ashby of Los Angeles; and two sisters, Patsy Ashby Chatman and Yvonne Brown McCune, both of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his father. The service for Mr. Ashby will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at Prugh's Chapel on Friday and Saturday until service time. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.
