Mr. William D. "Bill" Hookom, 86, of Burlington, died at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Great River Medical Center - Klein Center.
Born November 28, 1928 in rural Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Dewey and Della (Baker) Hookom. On November 26, 1955 he married Lois L. Schmidt in Monmouth, Illinois.
Mr. Hookom was a 1950 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a painter for John Fry for almost 50 years, retiring in1991. He was of the protestant faith and was a member of the painters' union and A.A.R.P. He loved woodworking and boating.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Lois Hookom of Burlington; two sisters, Evelyn Payne of Wayland and Ann Gott of Carrollton, Texas, and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Walker.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Hookom will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31st, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Randall Gearhart officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Humane Society.
