Dale L. Hemmie, 79, of West Burlington, died at 4:30 AM Saturday, May 28, 2016, at his home.
Born January 6, 1937, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Virgil Frederick and Evelyn Lucille Cross Hemmie. In July of 1955 he married Rosemary Rice. They later divorced. In December of 1961 he married Barbara Lucille McMurren. They later divorced. On June 6, 1987, he married Patricia Ann Hartman Smith at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Dale worked as an electrical engineer for Winegard for 20 years, Conifer/Andrew for 20 years and Amphenol Antel Inc in Rockford, Il for three years.
He was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, from 1955 until 1959 where he was stationed for 18 months in Turkey. He started in electronics training and became an Airman First class.
He was a former member of the Burlington Golf Club, Burlington Eagles # 150, and was in the top three patent holders in the State of Iowa, with a total of 18 patents. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, chess, playing cards, golfing, collecting antiques, working in the yard, and was an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; four sons, Dale (Kelly) Hemmie, Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Fredrick Hemmie of Burlington, Michael (Tammy) Hemmie of Puyallup, WA, Matthew (Lisa) Hemmie of Canton, MI; three daughters, Susan Hemmie Ottney of AZ, Jeannine Hemmie Olivas of AZ, Kathleen (Mark) Hemmie Boswell of Charleston, SC; two step-sons, Mike (Lisa) Smith of Burlington, Scott (Molly) Smith of Burlington; one step-daughter, Susie Davis of O'fallon, MO; 23 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Don (Cheryl)Johnson of Wever; one sister, Linda Kay Spurgeon of Trenton, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Fredrick Hemmie.
Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory.
The funeral service for Mr. Hemmie will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 3, 2016, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home & Crematory following the service.
Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory following the service.
Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
