J. Elmer Ashby, 84, of 2830 Winegard, died Friday, Feb. 25, at Burlington Medical Center. He was born Nov. 29, 1898, in Hillsboro to John and Rosa Lamb Ashby. He married Faye Dickson in Bloomfield Dec. 5, 1943; she died Dec. 16, 1979. He was retired from Kimball Electric. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving: two stepdaughters, Mrs. Edward Latta, Burlingame, Calif., and Evelyn Spurgeon, Ottumwa; three brothers Roger, Tracy, Wash., and Harry and Robert, both of Burlington; a sister, Nellie McConnely, Eric, Pa.; eight grandchildren. Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday Lunning Chapel, the Rev. Bruce Pallen; Aspen Grove cemetery.
