Roy Louis Holmberg, 83, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 26, 2007, at Great River Medical Center Klein Center. Born December 15, 1923, in Burlington, he was the son of Oscar Edwin and Myla Elizabeth Hingst Holmberg. On October 2, 1949 in Sanilac County, Michigan, he married Bernice A. Amon. He was a member of Iowa Registered Professional Engineers, member and president of Burlington United Fund Board of Directors, Des Moines County Heart Fund, St. Luke United Church of Christ Church Council. He enjoyed boating, traveling through Mexico and Canada, as well as every state in the union except for Alaska and Hawaii, often including his children. He was a history buff, especially of the Civil War, and passed his love of history on to his children. He enjoyed fishing, attending baseball games and astronomy. He was a member of Eagle Arie 150 and Moose Lodge 579. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife Bernice of Burlington; one son Alan (Christine) Holmberg of Sonoma, CA; one daughter Lisa (Robert) Hart of Troy, MI; six grandchildren, Jakob Holmberg, Colleen Sullivan, Meghan Sullivan, Nichole Hart, Laney Hart and Michael Hart; one brother Jack Holmberg of Winter Haven, FL; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Holmberg was preceded in death by his parents. The memorial service will be Saturday, September 1, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke United Church of Christ, with Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A private burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery September 9, 2008. A memorial has been established for St. Luke United Church of Christ and Great River Medical Center Hospice.
