LaVerne Charles "Lefty" Holeton, 78, of Burlington died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2007, at his home. Born May 20, 1929, in Logan, Iowa, he was the son of Edgar M. and Matie A. Graves Holeton. On May 18, 1952, he married Marjorie Ann Gates in Triplet, Mo. She died November 6, 1999. On Oct. 14, 2002, he married Dorothy Hassman in Danville. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was self-employed in mobile home sales. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church in Wever. He was a mediator for small claims court. He was a member of the Manufactured Housing Association of Iowa. He enjoyed traveling, listening to Southern Gospel music, talk radio and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Fort Madison; one son, Michael (Kathy) Holeton ofAntioch, Tenn.; two daughters, Barbara (Tim) Johnson of Hiawatha and Michele (Greg) Dyer of West Point; two grandsons, Benjamin and Matthew Holeton; four granddaughters, Megan Seals, Jessica, Josephine and Jayme Dyer; one sister, Irene Jacobsen of Logan; nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, one sister and one brother. Visitation with family present will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Holeton will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2007, in Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Steve Huecker officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Grace Bible Church and Hospice of Central Iowa.
