Ruth Louise Hoelzen, 88, of Burlington, died at 5:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010, in Gladstone, IL. Born on January 31, 1922, she was the daughter of Harry Ross and Anna (Acheson) Davis. She married Howard Hoelzen, Sr., on May 1, 1942, in St. Louis, MO. He died January 19, 2005. She worked for Sylvania, IAAP, and Witte Drug until her retirement. She was a member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ. She loved gardening, cooking, and family gatherings, and especially enjoyed the river and sandbar trips. Survivors include three sons, Howard (Sandy) Hoelzen, Jr. of Gladstone, Walter Hoelzen of Carman, IL, and R. David (Deanna) Brown of Alabama; one daughter, Linda Lundy of Riverside, IA; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Trent and Rick Hoelzen, two brothers, and one sister. The funeral services for Mrs. Hoelzen will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 8th, in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Benton will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army.
