Keith Arthur Hoelzen, 77, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 8:27 Thursday, June 12, 2008, at his home. Born September 23, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Clarence Arthur and Dorothy Ann Melzian Hoelzen. On January 28, 1956, he married Doris J. Hughes in Neenah, Wisconsin. Mr. Hoelzen operated Triple H. Hunting Preserve and Sporting Clays. He raised and exhibited Polled Hereford cattle. He pioneered during ultrasonic carcass evaluation on beef cattle herds more than 30 years ago. He was a professional livestock photographer at state fairs and his photos were published in many purebred livestock publications. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He graduated from the University of Missouri. Survivors include his wife Doris Hoelzen of RR Burlington; one son, Hugh (Carolyn) Hoelzen of West Burlington; and one grandson, Jared Hoelzen of West Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The funeral for Mr. Hoelzen will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008, at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Great River Christian School.
