Verlena Rose Hodgerson Hunter, 93, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at Great River Medical Center's Klein Center. Born Nov. 20, 1913, in Rothville, Mo., she was the daughter of Harry and Katie Collier Strickland. On March 20, 1935, she married Robert Edward Hodgerson in Chillicothe, Mo. He died March 7, 1968. In 1973 she married Willard Hunter. He died in 1991. Mrs. Hunter worked for Campbell Chain and at Selby's Chicken Factory for many years. She was a member of Wapello United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed her owl collection, fishing, all sports and was a Cardinals and Hawkeyes fan. Survivors include two sons, Harry Hodgerson of Moline, Ill., and Harold Hodgerson of Fairfield, Ohio; one daughter, Kathy Moser of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Hunter will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Tyrone Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Great River Medical Center's Klein Center.
