Edgar Louis "Eddie" Hockett, 84, of West Burlington, died at 6:15 p.m. October 8, 2010, at his home. Born January 18, 1926, he was the son of Gilbert L. and Melissa M. Wienike Hockett. He married Evelyn M. Stark on October 18, 1944, at the First United Church of Christ in Burlington. She died July 17, 2009. Eddie was president of Hockett Toyota, Inc. of West Burlington for 40 years. He retired in 1985. He loved watching NASCAR. He had a life-long passion for cars, and later in life enjoyed playing dominos. Survivors include his five children, Janet (Donald) Atherton of Hamilton, IL, Richard (Deborah) Hockett of Norwalk, IA, Nancy (Gary Deen of West Burlington, Dan (Bev) Hockett of West Burlington, and Sue (Mark) Schowalter of Genoa City, WI; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale Hockett of Burlington, and Rev. Gilbert L. Hockett, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; one sister, Barbara Ireland of Burlington; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; one son in infancy Edgar L. Hockett, Jr.; his brother Lee; and his half-sister Viola. The funeral services for Mr. Hockett will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 15th, in Lunning Chapel. The Revs. Dean Moberg and Mark Schowalter will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon on Thursday, October 14th, in Lunning Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington.
