Mrs. Delma M. Hingst, 101, of West Burlington, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born February 21, 1913, in Wilton Junction, she was the daughter of Fred Fay Stodgell and Beryl Delma Walker Stodgell Glashine. Mrs. Hingst was raised through part of her teen years by her aunt and uncle, Robert and Bevie Schroeder. On December 31, 1932 she married Herbert J. Hingst at First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1971.
Mrs. Hingst attended Burlington schools. She worked at the pearl button factory as well as Mercy Hospital and Burlington Community School District in food service. She was a caregiver to several.
Mrs. Hingst was a member of First United Church of Christ where she was known for her pies. She loved to fish and share time on the river with her family. She enjoyed her family, her pets, flowers, eating out, traveling and watching geography, history and western channels on tv.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris (Carl) Kalkbrenner of rural West Burlington; two grandchildren, Lisa Kalkbrenner and David Kalkbrenner; one niece, Sharon (Benny) Leonard of Fairfax, Virginia, half brothers and sisters, several cousins and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Vida Stodgell Blevins and several half brothers and sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hingst will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 16th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for First United Church of Christ and Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
