George Philip Hingst, Jr., 70, of Burlington, died at 1:52 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at University Hospitals in Iowa City. Born Nov. 1, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of George Philip, Sr. and Ella L. Brewer Hingst. On Sept. 6, 1947, he married Patricia Busse in Burlington. Mr. Hingst was a graduate of Burlington High School. He worked as a welder in construction for 20 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was a stake Sunday School teacher and ward clerk. He loved woodworking and art, played the fiddle, and wove many rugs. He was a past member of the Moose and Eagles. Survivors include his wife; one son, Lynn C. Hingst of Fort Madison; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Genevieve Hingst of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, and one brother. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hingst will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop G.M. Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
