James Abbott Applegate, 78, of Midland, Texas, died at 9:56 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at Midland Medical Center. Born Nov. 7, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Roy Russell and Catherine M. Abbott Applegate. On Feb. 19, 1966, he married Mary C. Hart in Burlington. She died Oct. 14, 1988. Mr. Applegate retired as an electrical engineer at Pantex. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, and a collector of classic cars. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Cearley of Midland. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. today in Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mr. Applegate will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Christ Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Patrick Genereux officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army.
