Margaret May Jones Applegarth, 81, of Burlington, died at 6:41 AM Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the Great River Klein Center.
Born February 28, 1936, in Cambria, IA, she was the daughter of Emery Kenneth and Emma Ellen Miner Jones. On July 21, 1957, she married Paul LeRoy Jones in Burlington. They later divorced. On September 24, 1969, she married Blaine "Slim" Applegarth in Burlington. He died July 9, 2004.
Margaret worked as a teller for Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust for 29 years. She retired in 1997.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1954.
She was a member of the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. She enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards and Wahoo.
Survivors include her two sons, John Paul (Kimberly) Jones of Campo, CA, and James William Jones of Davenport; two step-sons, Michael (Jennifer) Applegarth of Burlington, and David (Gay) Applegarth of Watertown, WI; two step-daughters, Lelia (Randy) Wilkerson of Mount Union, and Ann Applegarth Veith of Kansas City, MO; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, William Edgar (Cheryl) Jones of Burlington; two sisters, Peggy Davies of Sparks, NV, and Mary (Phil) Chiaramonte of Waukee; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Emery Kenneth Jones, one step-son James Applegarth, and one daughter-in-law, Katie Sweeney Jones.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Applegarth will be 1:00 PM Saturday, July 1, 2017, Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established in her name.
