Charles L. "Chuck" Hemerling, 59, of Burlington, died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at his home. Born June 18, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Howard and Frances Schmidt Hemerling. On Feb. 13, 1971, he married Connie Lou Danielson in Burlington. She died May 19, 2000. Mr. Hemerling worked in maintenance at J.I. Case Co., retiring in 2003. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and John Wayne movies, going to 34 Raceway, hunting and boating. Survivors include one daughter, Chantelle Sue Diewold of Burlington; one granddaughter; one brother, Tom Hemerling of Burlington; and his special friend. Donna Whiting of Burlington. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son in infancy. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hemerling will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Kirk Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for his granddaughter Chloe's education.
