Obituary

Ethel Elizabeth Helms, 83, of Burlington, died at 1:36 AM, Sunday, October 15, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington Born July 17, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John C. Sr. and Kate Boeckle Senn. On October 18, 1941, she married Robert L. Helms in Burlington. Mrs. Helms had been a homemaker. She had also worked at the IAAP Ordnance Plant for nine years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She belonged to the Ruth Zartman Circle and the Mission Circle. She loved to bake, play cards, go to yard sales and auctions, and read. Survivors include her husband, Robert; three daughters, Gaye (Jim) Humes of Burlington, Nancy (Tom) Franklin of Hallsville, MO, and Esta Helms of Yuma, AZ; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister, Esther Schroder of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, four sisters, one granddaughter, and one great grandson. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM Wednesday, October 18, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home until 8:00 PM. There will be no family visitation. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Helms will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 19, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Erick Swanson officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Trinity Lutheran Church.
