Frank Adam Hellenthal, 98, of Burlington died at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living Center. Borrn Dec. 29,1908, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank William and Clara Louise Walker Hellenthal. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a corporal from 1941 to 1945. He and Art Nelson started the Dairy Queen in Burlington in 1947. They opened a second store in 1948 and opened the third on Roosevelt Avenue in 1964. He retired in 1971. He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1922. Survivors include one brother, H. Michael "Mike" Hellenthal of Fort Madison; nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from from 2 to 4 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hellenthal will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Erick Swanson officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
