Paul Lester Hellberg, 83, of West Burlington, died at 3:02 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Nov. 20, 1924, in Washington Park, Ill., he was the son of Theodore "Harry" and Edna Knoll Hellberg. On May 17, 1947, he married Martha Mehaffy in Keokuk. She died Sept. 28, 2005. Mr. Hellberg was the assistant factory manager for Burlington Basket Factory for 38 years, retiring in 1985. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific Theatre. He was of the protestant faith and a member of VFW Post 1962. Survivors include one son, Michael Hellberg of Burlington; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond Hellberg of Colorado; two sisters, Rosemary Phur of Fenton, Mo., and Grace Johanson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a special niece, Margaret Jennings; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hellberg will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
