James Allen Heckenberg, 55, of Burlington, died at 4:35 PM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.
Born October 27, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Edwin James and Rena Mae Timmerman Heckenberg. On May 31, 1997, he married Lynette Renee Johnson at the First Christian Church in Davenport.
Jim worked as a city planner for the City of Burlington and City of Davenport.
He was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a 1984 graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Planning with a minor in Political Science and History.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He had a passion for history, current events, and politics. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.
Survivors include his wife, Lynette; one son, Nathan Sandrock of Anchorage, AK, his mother, Rena Heckenberg of Burlington; two brothers, Jerry (Joyce) Heckenberg and Steve Heckenberg both of Burlington; one sister, Pam (Scott) Gustafson of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2007, and one brother, Dan in 1983.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory.
There will be no visitation or services.
Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery
A memorial has been established for the Purple and Gray Foundation for improvement at Bracewell Stadium.
