Wilma Dot Hazell, 97, of Burlington, died at 9:36 AM Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born May 27, 1918, in Mexico, MO, she was the daughter of Harry Krutcher and Henrietta White Reed. On July 15, 1936, she married Arthur Franklin Hazell in Morrison, IL. He died September 23, 1987.
In the mid 60's, Dot went to work with her husband at Hazell Agencies where she quickly became the lead real estate sales person in the office. She continued with this into the 1970's. Dot and her husband retired in 1979 and moved to Cherokee Village, AR. Shortly after Art's death in 1987, Dot returned to Burlington.
She was a 1936 graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and it's Sarah Circle, Eastern Star, King's Daughters, P.E.O. Chapter NH, and the Burlington Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She had a passion for drawing and enjoyed social events, dancing, music, flowers, playing bridge, and golfing. She hit a hole-in-one on her very first swing of the club.
Survivors include three sons, Arthur Michael (Joan) Hazell of Coralville, Patrick James (Pam) Hazell of Washington, and Jonathan Scott (Cathy) Hazell of Burlington; 15 grandchildren, Jim (June Boughton) Hazell, Michelle Hazell, Lisa (Reid Frey) Schreiner, Robert (Jill) Hazell, William Plock, Jonathan (Amy) Hazell, David (Dawn) Hazell, Aira (Craig) Harris, Tasha (Monte) Hazell-Miller, Sarah Hazell, Theresa (Adam) Thielen, Tony (Kayla Pierschbacher) Hazell, Katie (Mike) Denehy, Sean (Laura Miller) Hazell, Molly Hazell; 23 great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Kaley, Macy, Zachary, Noah, Riley, Daisy, Lucinda "Lucy", Livi, Jon-Luc, Cayleigh, Charissa, Cameron, Laura, Miranda, Caite, Hannah, Julian, Julia, Claire, Paul, Jude, Noah; four great-great grandchildren, Quincy, Priya, Alona, Aydriah; former daughter-in-laws, Donna Hazell of Burlington, and Maureen Hazell of Macomb, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Reed Hazell, one grandson Michael Dennis Hazell, one brother, and one sister.
Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, August 7, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hazell will be 10:00 AM Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Rigdon officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
