Carolyn Jennifer Hawes, 78, of Burlington, died at 4:40 PM Monday, December 25, 2017, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born December 8, 1939, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Martin and Louise Flowers Neiswanger. On October 21, 1962, she married Louis Clyde Hawes in Keokuk. He died on October 25, 2005.
She worked as a Lab Technician for over 20 years at Great River Medical Center.
She graduated from Southeastern Community College and attended the University of Iowa.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington. She enjoyed volunteering for various church organizations and spending time with family.
Survivors include her son, Andrew (Dawn) Hawes of Burlington; two daughters, Jennifer Hawes and Sarah (Jamie) Smith both of Burlington; two grandchildren, Trenton and Rory Hawes; two step-grandchildren, Alexandria and Patrick Smith; and one sister, Sharon Leonard of Lamoni, IA.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hawes will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 29, 2017, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Melisa Bracht-Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Following the burial a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Loft in downtown Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the First United Methodist Church and the American Cancer Society.
