Neva M. Hauer, 93, formerly of Burlington died at 11:00 P.M. Monday December 28, 2015 at Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield. She was born August 5, 1922 in Bode, IA to Joseph and Leta Mason Brandstetter and married Fred R. Hauer December 13, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. He died November 10, 1988.
Neva graduated from Bode High School and moved with her family to Burlington. She was a homemaker and worked in food service at Burlington Community High School. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church, Burlington and had been a Girl Scout leader. Gardening and flowers were her favorite hobbies and she enjoyed watching birds and wildlife as well as cooking, her specialties being pies and potato salad. She also did sewing. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her special love.
Surviving are a daughter, Marie Settles (James) of Keosauqua, four grandchildren, Corbin Settles (Kaitlin Armstrong), Christian Settles (Lisa), Tracy Shaw and Sharee Settles, three great-grandchildren Cecelia and Lincoln Shaw and Quinn Armstrong, her twin sister, Eva Peterson and family of Burlington. Neva and Eva shared adjoining rooms at Sunnybrook Health Care Center, Fairfield.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Lyle Brandstetter and two sisters, Winnie Brandstetter and Helen Klooster
Funeral services will be at 11:00 Monday January 4, 2016 in First Christian Church, 1221 Park Avenue, Burlington with Rev. David Yonker officiating. A visitation will be 2-4 P.M. Sunday January 3, 2016 with family present at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua and visitation prior to the service at the church in Burlington from 10-11 A.M. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials to First Christian Church or Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 800 Mulberry Street, Keosauqua, IA 52565
