Nathalie “Nat” Frances Hartman, 87, of Burlington, died at 4:25 PM, Friday, April 27, 2007 at the Great River Medical Center-Klein Center in Burlington. Born May 10, 1919 in Deaver, Wyoming, she was the daughter of John Gates and Ruth Agnes Davis. She married Richard Wayne Hartman on December 30, 1945 in Torrington, WY. He died July 20, 1998. Nat attended Colorado Women’s College in 1937-38. She graduated from the University of Wyoming with a teaching degree. She taught school in New Mexico and Wyoming. Nat worked as “Rosie the Riveter” for Boeing Aircraft during World War II. In 1951, the family moved to Burlington, and along with Rich’s brother they began the original Coast to Coast Hardware on Maple. It later became True Value on 9th Street. Nat assisted with the bookkeeping responsibilities at the store, but her primary focus was her home and children. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her family. Survivors include one son, Wayne “Mike” (Jeanette) Hartman of Burlington; two daughters, Stacia (Dennis) Swanson of Pittsburgh, PA, Marda (Jerry) Smith of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Ben, Jake, Jonna, Erica, Jesse, Kelsey and Cullen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Visitation will begin after 8:00 AM, Monday, April 30, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The Family Graveside Committal Service and Interment for Mrs. Hartman will be Tuesday, May 1, at the Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Reverend Dean Graber officiating. A memorial has been established for the Hope Haven Area Developmental Center.
