Kenneth Charles Hartman, age 80, of Wapello, died Monday morning, April 28, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City. The son of Lester Sr. and Winifred Anhalt Hartman, he was born on March 29, 1934 in Burlington. Kenneth married Lea Richardson on June 14, 1958 in Washington, Iowa.
Kenneth went to Mediapolis School, served in the United States Navy from 1953-1957 on the USS Sierra AD18. He was a 50 year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 13 and was a member of the American Legion in Columbus Junction.
His favorite activities were fishing, USS Sierra Reunions, reading books, and watching westerns.
His surviving family includes his wife, Lea; 5 children, Kevin (Christy) Hartman of Burlington, Cynthia Boomershine of Oakville, Brian Hartman, Christine (Mark) Wonders, and Angela (Kent) Savage all of Wapello; 11 grandchildren; 3 great granddaughters; 4 brothers, Fred (Nancy) Hartman of Winfield, Larry (Carman) Hartman of Oquawka, Illinois, Dennis (Debbie) Hartman of Mt. Pleasant, and Ronald Hartman of Mediapolis; 1 sister, Judy (Jim) Strasser of Morning Sun; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Richard and Lester Jr.; 1 sister, Alice Wiley; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Hartman; 3 grandsons; and a great granddaughter.
The funeral ceremony for Kenneth Hartman will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating. The family will meet friends prior to the funeral from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home. A luncheon will follow the funeral at the Solid Rock Baptist Church Fellowship Room. Cremation will occur following the funeral with burial at a later date at the Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
