Obituary
James "Jim" R. Hartman, 85, of Burlington, died at 5:10 pm Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Born July 5, 1926, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert Grover and Beulah Mosena Hartman. On June 5, 1948, he married Patsy I. Hobbs in Burlington. She died April 5, 1981. Jim worked 40 years in Microwave Radio Maintenance for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1986. He was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II in Guam as an aviation machinist. He was a member of Communications Workers of America, VFW Post 10102 and the Burlington Gym. He was an avid community volunteer. He enjoyed rose gardening, watching movies, and was a Marilyn Monroe collector. Survivors include three daughters, Carol M. (Wilbur) Knotts of Quincy, IL, Joan I. (Steve) Hoelscher of Newton, IA, and Sally J. (Tom) Herzog of Quincy, IL; six grandchildren, Jason Knotts, Melissa Blankenbaker, Lisa St. John, Ben Hultgren, Jill Hultgren, and Taylor Herzog; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Austin, Josi, Devin, and Miles; one sister, Leona Schwartz of Galesburg, IL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers, one sister, and one great-granddaughter. As per Jim's request cremation has been accorded. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The memorial service for Mr. Hartman will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Chaplain Randy Gearhart officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Burlington Toys For Tots and the Burlington Steamboat Senior Center.
