Obituary

Norman G. Hartman, 81, of West Burlington, died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born September 21, 1927, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur and Anna Mae Jackson Hartman. On September 15, 1956, he married Donna Marie Harris in Burlington. She died February 2, 2003. Mr. Hartman worked for 39 years as a parts/sales manager for Hawkeye Motor Co., retiring in 1986. He graduated with honors from Burlington High School in 1947. He served in the Army as a Military Policeman during the Korean War. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the American Legion for 17 years, and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, camping, fishing, and boating on the river. He was a fan of the Detroit Lions and Iowa Hawkeyes, and enjoyed NASCAR Racing. Survivors include one son, Ross S. Hartman of Burlington; one daughter, Beth A. Delaney of Burlington; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. No visitation is planned. The body has been cremated. The memorial service for Mr. Hartman will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Hass-Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of arrangements.
