Caroline "Johnnie" Harris, 83, of Burlington died 3:40 p.m. Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. She had resided at Burlington Care Center for the past 2 ½ years.
Born on January 21, 1934, in Monmouth, Illinois, she was the second oldest daughter of Richard O. and Esther M. (Larson) Anderson.
She was raised in the Gladstone, Illinois area, graduating from Gladstone-Oquawka High School in 1951. She graduated as a registered nurse from Mercy Hospital in Burlington and married Donald Johnson in 1954. They later divorced. She then married Gerald Harris in 1974. He died in 1995.
Her nursing career consisted of working as head nurse on the surgical floor at Mercy Hospital for two years and then working for Surgeon's Inc. for over 38 years, before retiring.
She was a member of First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, the Eagles Lodge, VFW, Red Hat Ladies and the Jane Delano Nurses Association.
She loved flowers, yard work, crafts, dancing, baking and traveling. Her favorite color was blue and she collected music boxes.
Survivors include two brothers, Eugene R. (Jean) Anderson of Burlington and Leonard (Carolyn) Anderson of Oquawka; one sister, Lois (Allen) Tee of Oquawka; special friend, Carl Boley of Burlington; nieces and nephews, Diane Stamper and Daryl Davis both of Covington, KY, David Tee of Houston, TX, Darren Tee of Mahomet, IL, Nancy Anderson of Aurora, CO, Eric Anderson of Burlington and Ryan Anderson of Washington, IL; step daughter, Barbara and one step grandson both of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, Marilyn Davis and one brother, Wayne Anderson.
The funeral service for Johnnie will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15th at Lunning Chapel. Rev. David Yonker will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.
Memorials have been established for P.A.W.S, First Christian Church - Disciples of Christ, St. Luke United Church of Christ or Burlington Care Center.
