Edward Harlman, 117, of Elm View Care Center, Burlington, died at 5;44 p.m., Monday, March 3, 1997, at the care center.
He was born Feb. 12, 1880, in Kingston, Jamaica. On June 27, 1931, he married Bertha K. Webb. She died Sept.23, 1953. Mr. Harlman became a U.S. citizen on Nov. 24, 1943. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWI and WWII. He worked as a cook at Burlington Hotel, production worker at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, and sanitation worker for city of Burlington until his retirment.
He was a member of VFW Post 10102. He was of the Catholic faith, and was Iowa's oldest resident until the time of his death.
Survivors include one son, Tony Harlman of Milwaukee, Wis., and best friend Keith Conger Sr. of Keosauqua.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mr.. Harlman will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. David Rogula officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102.
