Phyllis Alberta Menke, 89, of West Point, died at 4:50 am Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Danville Care Center in Danville. Born November 29, 1922, in Rural Wellman, IA, she was the daughter of Samuel Ludwig and Emma Edna Jaynes Longwell. In October of 1941, she married Harold Hyde in Missouri. He died in 1942. On June 2, 1943, she married Paul "Buddy" Hanson in Burlington. He died in 1967. On 1970, she married Arthur Menke. He died in 2008. Phyllis was a homemaker. She was a member of West Hill Methodist Church. She enjoyed golfing, she once achieved a hole-in-one in the early 80's at Springlake Golf Club, as well as bowling, tending to her flowers, and playing bridge twice a week with bridge clubs. Survivors include two sons, Paul R. (LaDonna) Hanson II and Phillip (Kelly) Hanson, both of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jesse (Jackie) Hanson, Lonnie (Michelle) Hanson, Dusty (Dana) Hanson, John Vernoy (Vona) Hanson, Stacy Hand Hanson, and Michaela (Chuck) Hanson; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death her parents, two brothers, three sisters. As per Phyllis's request cremation has been accorded. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Friday, April 13, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The memorial service for Mrs. Menke will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 13, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the inurnment.
