David Lee Hanson, 61, of Petrolia, California and formerly of Burlington died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City.
Born April 16, 1955 in Burlington, he was the son of Ralph "Buck" Lee and Judith "Judy" Grace (Robinson) Hanson. He married Marla Marie Mathews and they later divorced.
Mr. Hanson attended Burlington High School and was a graduate of the American Army School in Frankfurt, Germany. He was an Army veteran serving in Germany during Vietnam.
Mr. Hanson worked as a truck driver in the late 70s and early 80's first at Sharkey Trucking and later for his father at Hanson Trucking. He was a self-employed cement contractor and was vice president of the Cement Masons Union Local 825 in California.
He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, being outdoors and NASCAR racing.
Survivors include two brothers, Michael Hanson of Burlington and Steven Hanson of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Terri Carlson of Mesa, Arizona and Kathy Inghram of Burlington; 13 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Hanson will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10th, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Marshall Jackman officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.
