Obituary
Dollie R. Hamler, 89, of Burlington, died at 11:07 AM, Sunday, April 15, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 2, 1917, in Des Moines County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Rosella Hamler. She left the area to work for the government during World War II and the Korean Conflict. She helped to organize and set up several different USO’s in Germany and overseas. Upon returning to the states, she continued employment with the government in Washington, DC. She changed careers and cared for her mother in Burlington until her mother’s death. She owned and operated the What Knot Store on Jefferson Street until her mid 80’s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid antiquer and enjoyed reading and going to auctions. Survivors include distant relatives and her friend, Marty (Elvin) Swailes of Burlington. Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. The Funeral Service for Dollie will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 18, at the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Dennis G. Tevis officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established according to her written will.
