Marvin D. Zachmeyer, 64, of Burlington, died at 5:20 am Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington. Born May 20, 1948, in Sawyer, IA, he was the son of Milo Edward and Ethel Pauline Steward Zachmeyer. On June 6, 1981, he married Sam Sun Peters in Knoxville, TN. She died in 2008. Marvin was an U.S. Army Veteran with 20+ years of service. After retiring from the Army, he did some carpentry work. He was a 1966 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church. He was very active in his church. Survivors include one son, Timothy Zachmeyer of North Carolina; one granddaughter; two sisters, Rita (Kenneth) Haley of Gladstone, IL, and Joanne (Herman) Storch of Christianburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Delbert and Duane, and one sister, Marilyn Davidson. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Zachmeyer will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kirk Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Iowa Hospice
